The Village of Pouce Coupe issues building permits and conducts inspections in an effort to ensure that buildings are constructed and facilities are installed in accordance with BC Building Code and regulations. 

You may submit and pick up permit applications at the Village Office during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can download the Plumbing Permit Application and the Building Permit Application.

A building permit is required:

  • construction of a building or a structure, including accessory structures and buildings such as garages and sheds larger than 107 sq. ft.
  • alteration or addition to a structure or a building
  • construction of an secondary suite
  • structural repair or change to a structure or building
  • demolition of a structure or building or part of a structure
  • installation of heating appliances, such as woodstoves and inserts
  • moving a building
  • installation of a manufactured home

A building permit is NOT required:

  • Painting
  • Landscaping, sidewalks, and driveways
  • Install new roofing
  • Replace kitchen cupboards
  • Replacing existing bathroom, kitchen or laundry fixtures and fittings
  • Replacing windows and doors in existing openings
  • Recovering existing floors
  • Fences (fence height must comply with the Village of Pouce Coupe’s zoning bylaw where applicable)

Permit processing and plan review turnaround times are dependent upon the time of year and the scope of the project.

Permits should be posted at the builidng site for the duration of the project.

Inspections are required for the following stages:

  • Footings before concrete is placed.
  • Foundation before backfill is placed.
  • Dampproofing, drain tile, drainrock.
  • Insulation, vapour barrier.
  • Final, occupancy.

It is the responsibility of the owner/contractor to ensure that other inspections such as electrical, gas connection, plumbing, water and sewer connection are carried out at the appropriate times.

Building Inspector Office Hours

Our Building Inspector is Ted Pringle and his services are shared with the Peace River Regional District. Please note that inspections will only be conducted on Thursdays. To schedule an inspection, please contact the Village Office at (250) 786-5794. The owner/contractor must give a minimum of 48 hours to the Building Inspector for obtaining inspections and approval of all work under construction.
