FLOOD RELIEF
MESSAGE FROM EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT BC:
Major flooding in the Peace River Regional District from June 15-17, 2016 has caused property and content damages. As a result of the damages sustained from this event, provincial Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) has been authorized for qualifying claimants, such as home owners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitable organizations and local government bodies, who were unable to obtain insurance to cover these disaster-related losses.
Disaster Financial Assistance has been authorized for the:
Peace River Regional District
District of Chetwynd
City of Dawson Creek
City of Fort St. John
District of Hudson’s Hope
Village of Pouce Coupe
District of Taylor
District of Tumbler Ridge
Saulteau First Nations
West Moberly First Nations
As your community is situated in an area that may have experienced damages from this event, we request your assistance in acting as a distribution point for the application form. All applicants should first check with their insurance agent to determine if their current insurance policy provides coverage for the resulting damage. As part of the DFA qualification process applicants may need to provide a letter from their insurer indicating that they could not have purchased insurance to cover these disaster-related losses.
Information about Disaster Financial Assistance is available on the DFA web site at http://www.gov.bc.ca/disasterfinancialassistance. There you will find the DFA Application Forms, ‘Disaster Financial Assistance Guidelines for Private Sector’ and other useful information.
Although we encourage people to submit their application to us as soon as possible so that we can have the damage assessment completed promptly, the deadline date for EMBC to receive this form is September 15, 2016. Your office may wish to assist residents by e-mailing or faxing the completed application to this office (e-mail: DFA@gov.bc.ca; fax: 250-952-5542). As applications are received in this office, EMBC contracted evaluators will contact the applicants to explain the DFA program requirements and schedule an onsite visit.
