Tax Deferment Program

The Province of BC has two property tax assistance programs that allow you to defer all or part of your annual property taxes on your home if you meet certain criteria as per the following Property Tax deferment programs:

Regular Program

You may qualify for the Regular Program if you're:

  • 55 or older during the year
  • a surviving spouse of any age or
  • a person with disabilities

Families with Children Program

You may qualify for the Families with Children Program if you're:

  • are a registered owner of the property
  • have a minimum equity of 15% of the property's assessed value
  • are financially supporting a child under 18 or a child at any age attending an educational institution

How To Apply

After you receive your tax notice, apply for deferment by submitting:

  • payment for any outstanding utilities and taxes from prior years
  • your deferment application, signed by all owners on title
  • your homeowner grant application (if you didn't claim it online)

This must all be done before the tax deadline.
