Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34

The Pouce Coupe Legion Branch #34 has a long history in the area, and continues to provide a valuable service for village residents. It dates back before the village was established, having celebrated 90 years of Charter in 2017 and is one of more than 1,400 Royal Canadian Legion branches, with more than 275,000 members across the country. The Legion was founded as “The Canadian Legion of the British Empire Services League” in Winnipeg in 1925.

The Pouce Coupe Legion has been at its current location on 47 Avenue since 1952 and the building used to operate as a school. While the Legion has stayed at the same location for 65 years, they continually look at new ways to attract visitors. A renovation project in 2017 included the installation of new flooring and LED lights.

In Pouce Coupe, there are more than 100 members. The organization’s president is Allen Kennedy and they meet the second Tuesday of each month.

The organization holds its Schnitzel Night on the second Friday of each month. They also hold an annual Remembrance Day service and serve a pancake breakfast on Canada Day. The Legion also opens its doors for private functions, renting out its hall for weddings, birthday parties, Christmas parties, Celebrations of Life and more.

For more information on the Legion and facility rentals, please phone the organization’s line at (250) 786-5144 after 3:00 p.m.
