Why Move to Pouce Coupe

Affordability

The Village of Pouce Coupe offers its residents an affordable lifestyle. Not only is the median house price much lower than the provincial median house price, but the average house costs less than in many nearby communities. Furthermore, residents enjoy low tax rates and access to big city amenities less than 10 km away.

Pouce Coupe is an attractive bedroom community to the larger urban centre of Dawson Creek for its affordability but also its rustic setting and strong community values. Local services help build that sense of community, but it’s also seen at events such as annual Canada Day festivities and a Santa Claus parade during the holiday season.

Local Amenities

Pouce Coupe residents enjoy the convenience of being close to Dawson Creek, but can also access community services close at home. The Village is home to an elementary school, library and post office. The school includes a gym and kitchen that become a Community Centre when regular school hours come to an end. The Community Centre is available to rent out for a variety of functions including banquets, receptions and meetings.

The post office is situated on Main Street, only one block from the main highway. Main Street is a one-block stretch that includes a retirement home, community church, museum, fire hall, weekly food bank and the municipal government office. Within the Village boundaries there is also a Senior’s Hall, Royal Canadian Legion branch and Anglican Church.

The Pouce Coupe area also offers a lot of outdoor activities with more recreational opportunities on the horizon. On land adjacent to the Community Centre sits an outdoor rink that welcomes ice skating in winter when weather permits, and the site of a skateboard park slated to open in 2019. Behind the Community Centre are two baseball diamonds that form part of McNabb Residential Park.

The Village has no shortage of greenspace with about a half dozen parks open for public use. Situated just south of the village between Highway 2 and the Pouce Coupe River is Pouce Park, a day-use facility with walking trails, playgrounds, outhouses, a bandshell and Disc Golf Course. Within Village boundaries you will see a few other parks including Pederson Park, Harden Park and Office Park.

Looking beyond municipal boundaries, the Village of Pouce Coupe could benefit from the creation of a new trail linkage to Dawson Creek. The Peace River Regional District has been working with the two communities to create a trail, which would help encourage more active living.

Growth Opportunities

Pouce Coupe has opportunity to grow and increase its tax base. The West Pouce Neighbourhood Concept Plan has been created to enhance the quality of life for residents by expanding the quantity and quality of its housing stock. A 32-hectare area known locally as West Pouce has been identified for future residential development for several years and the Neighbourhood Concept Plan is the product of a consultation process that spanned several years.

Should additional services be required, Dawson Creek is only a 10-minute drive away, a short commute for adults who work in the city or students attending high school. Dawson Creek is the major service centre for the South Peace with a hospital, medical clinics, college, shopping mall, multiple restaurants and grocery stores.
